Get Involved
Here
is a way to volunteer for different events and activities.
EXODUS
JAIL VISITATION
Rates
of depression and suicide for incarcerated people
are vastly disproportionate when compared to
the general population. Responding to an acute need
for volunteers to visit in the jails, the Northern
Kentucky Interfaith Commission and the Mental Health
Association of Northern Kentucky joined forces to
sponsor Exodus. Exodus volunteers listen to incarcerated
people who are often filled with anxiety, frustration,
and depression because of their past and present
life situation.
Pairs of Exodus volunteers visit with the inmate
in a holding cell, away from the inmate's usual
cell. They visit inmates in the three Northern Kentucky
county jails (Kenton, Campbell, and Boone) and Maplewood
Children's Home.
Volunteers do not represent a particular religious
point of view. Our purpose is to listen and care,
not convert or preach. Volunteers are screened and
trained to participate in the jail visitation program.
We are funded by all three county fiscal courts,
the United Way, and donations given through the
Mental Health Association of Northern Kentucky and
the Interfaith Commission.
